Boris the Blade are 5 piece Melbourne based Deathcore band formed in 2010, Having released the “Tides of Damnation E.P.” in 2011 and building quite the following on the local scene with front man Daniel Sharp being just as well known for his vocals as he is for his tattoo work and has be come in high demand for both.

Having recently being signed to UK label Siege of Amida “The Human Hive” is the bands debut full length release and it is a perfectly skull pounding piece of what Deathcore should sound like

The album kicks off with the brutal “Serpents Crown” and it sets the tone for the entire album. The Vocals are guttural, The guitar work is unrelenting and the drumming is machine like in its continuous barrage of double bass .

Unlike a lot of Deathcore acts its not one to get super bogged down in breakdowns making it superior than a lot of what you hear because its never boring. The guitarists are able still hit that technical death sound and tone to show off their impressive skills with out it ever heading into super djent overboard stupidity that puts me to sleep. Also the use of samples are put to go effect here without becoming to frequent and distracting. They are used to strengthen the songs

Stand out tracks include “Spawn of Agony”, “Atrophy” the lead single “Atrophy” and title track “The Human Hive”

This album is a fantastic debut for these guys and shows that they can easily hang with the more established acts of the genre. If you liked Carnifex’s album “Die Without Hope” from a few months ago you’re most definitely gonna like this

“The Human Hive” is available May 9
