Spring Anime Season 2023

Humans of the internet. The spring anime season is underway and it’s time to take picks on what might be good shows this season. As usual, I make my selections on what looks interesting or may have a unique aspect to them. So with that, let’s get to them.

Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers
When a mysterious destroys Japan’s otaku culture, an otaku hero rises up and teams with three magical girls to lead a revolution to bring back fandom. With a premise that many who watch anime can relate to, I can see this being a success with viewers (plus I’m really digging the designs).

My Home Hero
After killing his daughter’s abusive yakuza boyfriend, salaryman Tetsuo Tosu finds himself down a dark spiral where he must defend his family from dangers of the criminal underworld. Deviating from the usual anime fair offers this season, this show is likely to give us a good crime thriller in a very gritty setting.

Mashle
In a school of magic users, non-magic user Mash Burnedead must find a way to succeed only using his weightlifting muscles. This looks like a good show based on seeing how exactly will our protagonist pull off the goal he has before him.

Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia

High students Ganta and Isaki go to the same school and also suffer from insomnia. They strike up a friendship as they occasional meetup at the school’s abandoned observatory. I’m looking forward to see how storytelling progresses in a story with two characters with this certain condition.

Kizuna no Allele
A young girl named Miracle enters into ADEN academy (a place that trains students to become virtual artists) in order to become a big star like her idol, Kizuna Ai. This will look like an interesting take on expanding the Kizuna Ai lore.

Rokudou no onna-tachi
High school student Rokudou finds his usual life of being picked on completely twist around when he suddenly finds himself a magnet that attracts the love of any bad girl he crosses (all thanks to a mysterious scroll from his grandfather). This series looks like it’s taking a unique twist on the harem genre, and I’m looking forward to how it plays with this twist.

So that’s the picks for this anime season. As usual, it’s best to give a series a three episode watch when trying to gauge if you want to continue. For now, happy viewings.
