So it seems like we are getting another sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, entitled Angel Has Fallen. Gerard Butler is coming back to play the Secret Service agent that protects the President and this time will be helmed by Ric Roman Waugh.
Waugh has a couple of features under his belt, the gritty prison drama Felon and the surprisingly good Dwayne Johnson (The Rock, just in case you don’t know) cartel drama, Snitch.
Now a lot of people aren’t big fans of the Fallen franchise but both films have grossed enough money to warrant sequels. Fallen definitely tries to be more like a John McClane adventure but really fall more in line in the likes of Steven Seagal’s Casey Ryback (Under Siege). Casey Ryback , if you don’t remember was just a cook on a ship and said ship was taken over by Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey. That was the wrong day for those two fuckers to take over the ship. You just don’t fuck around with Ryback. You don’t.
Part of the charm that works for Fallen is that it knows it’s a Die Hard clone and Gerard Butler playing it like “hey, I know this movie’s bad but I’m getting paid to be an action hero, so let’s have some fun.”
So get ready for another Fallen movie. And if this one is a success as well, any thoughts on what the fourth may be called?
