The Flash S01E14: Together Forever?

The Flash S01E14

The Flash Episode 14 “Fallout”

This week on The Flash, we pick up right where we left off last week.  Fireman, (okay so his/their name is Firestorm) set off a nuclear blast and Barry and Caitlin are running from the explosion.  Once the smoke clears and they discover there is no radiation, they go take a look at what happened.  Ronnie and Dr. Stein have been separated.  So everything is right with the world and it’s time to move on, well not so much.  It seems there is more to the separation than first thought.

As the episode progresses, we find out that Ronnie and Stein aren’t as separated as they thought.  They can feel each others emotions, have the same urges, and so forth.  How this is possible has something to do with synced brain waves.  On top of that, a shady government general wants them as a weapon.  Isn’t that always the case?  So as Stein is kidnapped, Barry and Ronnie have to go to rescue him.  While doing so, Ronnie and Stein learn that they can become one again, and no big blast will occur, if they both accept it.   More of that science stuff that I don’t really understand, but they did it well enough where I got the gist of it.  After getting away from the general, for now, Ronnie and Stein decide it’s time to go see about permantly fixing their problem.  So they leave to go see someone who may be able to help them.  I bet we see them again sometime soon.

That was the big story of the week, and there wasn’t really a side story to go along with it.  Barry did find out about how he goes back in time to try and stop his mothers murder.  But, he feels that now that he knows about it, he can change the outcome.  Iris is talked into looking into Star Labs by her boss at the paper, but that’s as far as that got.  The big thing as far as characters went this week was showing how Dr. Wells is showing his evil side.  Handing over Dr. Stein over to the general, then attacking said general with help from a gorilla looking human.  The one we saw two weeks ago!  What’s up with that gorilla anyway?

Thoughts & Opinions

So this week had a nice deep story putting an end to Firestorm for now, I think.  I thought it was over last week, and look how wrong I was.  Ronnie as a character hasn’t been given much depth, neither has Stein for that matter.  But, as they show up again later on, maybe we find out more about them.  All we know right now is Ronnie is/was Caitlin’s fiance, and Stein worked on Firestorm for another purpose than it turned out being.

Iris is starting to look into Star Labs, and is starting to wonder about the people Barry hang out with.  So is she going to find out he is The Flash?  Well, I’m sure she will, but how long do they drag it out?  Another thing that puzzles me is Dr. Wells.  I mean, is he a good guy or a bad guy?  He hands over Dr. Stein, then helps Barry to rescue him, technically only to make sure Barry isn’t captured.  He attacks General Eling at the end.  And he’s wearing that Reverse Flash outfit, so did he kill Barrys mom?  What the heck?  And no I don’t read the comic so I have no background with any of these characters.

They started down the road where if Barry runs fast enough, he could time travel.  But, they didn’t really get into it as the story was already big enough for this episode.  I did like the conversation they had explaining different time travel theories though.  Cisco explaining each theory in a easy to understand version for Joe as in Terminator theory or Back To The Future theory.  School would’ve been easier with that sort of teaching.

Overall, a good episode even if two of the characters it was centered around were not very fleshed out.  And I still want to know what the deal is with that gorilla like human thing.

The Good and The Bad

+ Firestorm story arc getting a decent conclusion for now                                     + Dr. Wells getting to show more of his evil side.  Even If I don’t know what side he truly is on                                                                                                             + Nice touches of comedy this week among the serious story                                 + Man Ape/Gorilla showed up!

– My only complaint is the one I made above, Ronnie and Stein seem too hollow so far
