I’ve mentioned this before but no one in the world loves thrash metal as much as South Americans and this band is the perfect example of that. Nervosa are a Brazilian 3 piece all female thrash metal band that exemplify the South American passion and spirit for thrash.
Making a pretty big impact on the thrash scene with their 3 track demo released in 2012 and Nervosa have quickly followed up with their debut album “Victim Of Yourself” which is everything you’d want from a thrash metal album and more. Its hard, fast, heavy and raw with a sound that gives you that perfect combination of the speed and attitude of hardcore with the precision and technically of pure heavy metal.
But unfortunately I’m going to have to address the elephant in the room on this one. Yes they are an all female band but they are not a great band for an all female band, they are a great band for a band period. Gender in this case is irrelevant they are all sound musicians and should be treated that way first and foremost. This is not some kind of ridiculous Butcher Babies type manufacture bullshit band this is a band of passionate musicians with a thirst and hunger for kick ass metal and its what they do best.
The album comes in hard and fast kicking of with the track “Twisted Values” and its unrelenting for the start to the very end. Front woman Fernanda Lira’s voice has that raw raspy quality, almost like a female Paul Baloff and guitarist Prika Amaral’s riff are extremely influenced by the Teutonic Big 4, there is a very Kreator and Sodom vibe to the whole album.
Tracks like “Wake Up and Fight”, “Death”, “Morbid Courage” and the title track “Victim Of Yourself” prove this band is not just another thrash metal flash in the pan and have a ton to offer and should be gaining a huge amount of exposure on the world stage
This album is a must for old school thrash fans looking for something new and extremely exciting..
