EvilutionE5150 Album Review: REVOCATION – “Deathless”

      Sample

Hailing from Boston Massachusetts comes Revocations. Formed in 2006 and now releasing their 5th studio album “Deathless”, Revocation are one of the more interesting death metal acts to emerge in the past few years.

Revocation manage to combined their modern death metal sound with that of classic 80s thrash metal which the give them the speed and raw power that sets their death metal sound apparent from a lot of other newer acts in genre as its not plodding and bogged down with breakdowns and similar rinse and repeat formula’s that a lot of the cute “Deathcore” acts rely on. Revocation are a perfect blend of speed and thrash.

The guitar tone and playing really have that florida death metal sound quality but the drumming from Phil Dubois-Coyne is that really thrash metal pace, reminiscent of Dave Lombardo or Charlie Benante. Then on a song like the title track for example the band arent afriad to bring in some melodic elements as well

Stand out tracks include the already mentioned title track, the hammering “Labyrinth of Eyes”, “Scorched Earth Policy” which is one of the most thrash tracks on the album and th melodic and almost groove based “Apex”

This album is one of the better death metal albums I’ve heard this year and also one of the more unique metal albums I’ve heard

In a sea of faceless generic deathcore releases being dropt every week this release really stands head and shoulders above 90% of whats being put out at the moment

Fans of old school death metal and old school thrash metal with definitely want to give this a listen
