Let it never be said I neglect my fans! (Fan?) I’ve been on holiday this week, so I’m cranking out a quick one to tide y’all over(Cheeky!) and will resume standard service next week. So without further ado, Ronda Rousey vs Alexis Davis! “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey is the current UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion. Before she came to the UFC, she competed in the Olympics on the US Judo team, where she won a bronze medal. She was the first ever American woman to win a medal in Judo. So, ya know, pretty fucking big deal!
“Ain’t no thang!”
Upon arriving in the UFC, she was awarded the newly created belt, and subsequently Judo’d the fuck outta anyone who stood in her way, winning the majority of her fights via Armbar (Evidently learning stuff from Chris Jericho!)
Or maybe they were via ARMbar? Or simply the ARMBAR?
She’s also a humongous wrestling fan, receiving the blessing of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper to use his nickname and calling her group of friends the “Four Horsewomen” after the WCW stable, which shows that she knows her shit! Plus, she was filmed having a small break down when Seth Rollins betrayed his fellow brethren and broke up the Shield. (Which I’m still not over, just an FYI) Along with being a complete and total terrifying badass, she is hot as all hell. I’ll come out and say it now before my bias seeps into the rest of the article, but she’s easily my number one celeb crush. An attractive woman who’s blonde, could kick my ass and is into wrestling? Has someone been reading my dream journal and building cyborgs to lure me in for some reason? Am I going to be the leader of the resistance in the future? When will Skynet take over? I don’t think I can handle Robert Patrick chasing me! Anyway, she’s quickly become one of the more popular fighters in UFC, being attractive, charismatic and downright lethal, as well as trailblazing the Women’s division and being a role model to young athletes the world over, most likely continuing to be a force to reckon with in year to come.
And she looks foine whilst she does so!
Alexis Davis is a Canadian fighter, who became interested in Martial Arts at a young age after watching Jean Claude Van Damme and Jackie Chan movies, later parlaying this into doing Jujutsu and BJJ in her teens, as well as joining the high school wrestling team. So, ya know, you get the idea she knows what she’s doing!
Why is it that this seems to be the default hand gesture for every MMA fighter?
She came into UFC with a pretty decent record of 12-5, and quickly made a name for herself by winning against multiple women who were tapped to be serious contenders to the title in their own rights, setting her up to receive a title shot on July 5, 2014 (Man, we jumped forward in time didn’t we?) Davis had the experience advantage, having 15 wins professionally compared to Rousey’s 10. But Rousey is coming in undefeated, as well as the fact she is a black belt judoka who’s trained alongside the great Gene Lebell, A.K.A the “Godfather of Grappling”, whereas Davis has the advantage in stand-up, something Rousey’s critics have called into question in regards to her skill. Better them than me! Both women close quickly, throwing cautionary punches to range each other, with Rousey landing a few light shots, but nothing of any significance. They then circle a bit more, with Ronda managing to land a pretty flush right hand, which causes Alexis to drop down a level, opening her up for a powerful knee from the champ, who follows it up with a, quite frankly beautiful, hip toss, landing in side saddle and subsequently beating the fuck outta Davis’ face, with her arm going limp and the ref calling for the TKO win on the part of Rousey! 0:16 seconds of the first. Oy vey. Does this mean Davis is going to win the DREAM and UFC women’s belts from Rousey in a few years time after having beaten Rosi Sexton and Cyborg Santos earlier in the night?
Yeah, maybe not.
