We’ve reached the 3rd part of this four part saga, and to say that this has been an underwhelming four parter is a definite understatement. We have two Bobs, one who looks like the old version and is getting all the love from everyone, and Glitch Bob, the one recovered from the net, who despite helping to save Mainframe from the system crash of season 3, and during the war with Daemon, is being treated like some stranger. In fact, this feeling of being treated like a pariah forced him to finally try and separate from Glitch, only to freeze him in some sort of corrupted state, while the other Bob can finally be free to Marry Dot. Which brings us to part three of the “My Two Bobs” story, “Null-Bot of the Bride”.
We open the episode with Dot, Mouse and AndrAIa preparing for Dot’s upcoming wedding by choosing dresses. They even had Cecil as wedding planner, because the snooty french waiter is a great wedding planner. He’s also not happy about setting the wedding in the war room, so gives them a big hallway in the principal office to do it instead. Meanwhile at the supercomputer, the guardians are working on the cristalized Glitch Bob in hopes to try and recover him, but it seems that all attempts fail.
After a bit with a stereotypically gay binome and Matrix, Other Bob tells Matrix that he’s his best sprite for the ceremony, and tells him that Glitch Bob is not doing well. Matrix says that it’s best not to tell Dot. But when Dot tells Matrix to walk the aisle with him, he gives the duties to Enzo. This includes organizing a “stag night”.
With the wedding hall decorated, and everything finally looking good to go, the ceremony begins. in Phong’s room, Enzo grabs the null of Wellman, which activates the code put on his icon by Hexadecimal. This manages to restore Wellman’s memories and voice while in his null state. This means that he can walk Dot down the aisle inside a newly built robot suit.
Back at the supercomputer, more attempts to unfreeze Glitch Bob is all for naught. Inside Glitch Bob’s subconscious he begins to wonder if he’s real or just a copy. He absorbs multiple keytools, which somehow frees him from his cristalized state, and manages to free himself from Glitch, as well as restore the keytools that were lost by the guardians, they activate a healing command over Bob, restoring him to normal. However Turbo still believes that this Bob may be the copy.
As the wedding is underway, Phong asks that anyone with an objection should speak now. Bob interrupts, and tells Dot that he still loves her. This doesn’t sit well with the other Bob, or Dot, who has made her ultimate decision. This doesn’t sit well with Enzo, since the Bob she didn’t choose is without Glitch. Dot just ignores him though, since this show has done a lot to turn her from smart and headstrong to loveblind. Glitch then leaves Bob and attaches to the other Bob, which seems to finally put the nail in the coffin as to which is the copy. But Glitch begins to activate on Other Bob, downloading his image and then turning Bob back to his origina form. And the other Bob turns into…
MEGABYTE??
Yep, turns out the other Bob that everyone was so fond of to the point of treating the Glitch Bob like crap about was the virus that destroyed their lives long ago. How’s that for karma kicking you in the ass? Bob and Megabyte battle for a bit (even to the confusion of Hack and Slash over who to side with) before the virus manages to use the panic and commotion of the Mainframe citizens to plan his escape.
Matrix and Bob investigate the scene, only to find Speccy, Dot’s assistant in the command room. This causes a bigger conundrum since they saw Speccy leave. The exposure to the web has turned Megabyte into a Trojan Horse virus, meaning he has the ability to shapeshift. The episode ends with Bob not knowing what to do to stop him.
This episode is really when this whole saga goes from somewhat enjoyable to frustrating and annoying. The main reason comes from just how quickly everyone moves on from the fact that Glitch Bob is near death to suddenly enjoy life again and for Dot and the other Bob to live happily ever after in his absence. And when the ultimate reveal of the other Bob as Megabyte finally happens, you really can’t feel bad for anyone, especially Dot. For how quickly she turned on the other Bob because she was so blind with love for the familiar feel of the other Bob, this is definitely what she deserves.
And we get to my second problem with this whole thing, and that’s the fact that Megabyte was the culprit all along. My fears that after the show had solved every major problem in Daemon Rising would end up with the show just going back to its old ways were proven correct. Sure, now Megabyte has a new power, but nothing’s changed. Hey, he’s even got battle damage from the web. If another Megabyte shows up looking like he used to, maybe they could play “which is the copy” again. It’s not like they haven’t turned these characters into idiots enough.
Well, there’s only one part left. How will the citizens of Mainframe deal with the new and improved Megabyte? I don’t know, but I’m sure ReBoot has its aces covered. There’s no way that this will end in disappointment.
