Dave the Dave’s Review Review: Hello, IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? (The IT Crowd)

This week it’s time to talk about the best show about nerds to start 6 years ago; not the “Big Bang Theory” you posers, I mean Channel 4’s “The IT Crowd.” For you Americans out there who have not watched this show, well, that’s legit. I mean it was on Netflix. I should be a good journalist and go see if it still is, but I will not. I have a pal named Sheree who literally enjoys everything I do. She is me as a girl, but luckily for her, that comparison doesn’t equate to looks. She told me that I would really enjoy this show. And if we put together that chain of thought, I basically told me to watch this show. Is anyone still with me? If you are, go ahead and follow me on Twitter @davethedave1670. I normally wouldn’t plug, but Michael Cole thinks it’s a good idea.

“The IT Crowd” is a show from across the pond. If you’re reading this outside of America, that means the U.K. They were going to make a version for the US, but Joel McHale is already on television enough right? I really need to focus. Each paragraph has started out with the intention of talking about this funny program, but I keep diverging. It’s almost like I keep forcing set ups for animated images.

Down to business now everyone. “The IT Crowd” stars two standard nerds and a lady working in the IT department of Reynholm Industries. The nerds are best pals and they detest the rest of their office for not understanding computers. They are Moss and Roy. Roy is a big and lazy Irish guy and Moss has some kind of sponge for hair. He also throws a wicked coffee.

There new boss is Jen. She is hired by Denholm Reynholm because he is the dumbest head of a company ever. Well, until Season 2 that is. Jen is quickly found out as being completely inept. She knows nothing about computers and was once convinced that the internet was in a singular black box. Luckily for her Moss and Roy take a liking to her and keep around so she can handle the office workers that they wish to avoid dealing with. Sounds good right?

There is actually one more member of the IT team. His name is Richmond. He was once the star young executive of the company and very close to Denholm. Sadly he discovered Cradle of Filth and became a goth. Luckily it didn’t seem to get in between him and the boss.

Lie. Sorry. Denholm hated the new gothic look so much he shoved him in a closet in IT. Despite Denholm’s short comings, he had pride. When he found out he was being shamed for stealing, he promptly walked out of a window and died (as shown above.) This brought along the best boss our main cast could have asked for:

See? He’s such a great boss. He was concerned about the safety of his employees and tested the gun. He also tends to sexually harass people, act dramatically and kill his wife in a house fire. Granted, that last one only happened once. We can jump to the final episode and ruin Douglas’ story, but why would I do that? I need to leave a little something for you guys to find out.

Like what all this is about

“The IT Crowd” was extremely goofy.  With a cast such as this, how could it not be? The two Reynholms and Jen add to the insanity, but I think a show based entirely on Roy and Moss would have been just as good. I mean we’ve got a want to be womanizer who is friends with a huge socially awkward dork. Who would have thought rehashing some of the plot of “Saved By The Bell” would work so well? From plots concerning Jen’s Aunt Irma to gay musicals, stories about men peeing in sinks, and parents dying at a sea parks, you’re in for a ride of lunacy. Don’t take my word for it; go watch it on Netflix if it’s still there. If not, steal or something. I don’t care. Here is maybe my favorite bit from the show to convince you.
