Music Previews: Connor’s Picks for March 6th

Hellloooooo!

You know who’s got music coming out this week? No? Well I do! And I’m gonna tell ya who!

(Psst…Bruce Springsteen is one artist.)

Bruce Springsteen – “Wrecking Ball”

The Boss is back! How much ya wanna bet I’m not the first person to say that? But here he is, he’s back! Releasing his 17th album this week, Springsteen’s surely gonna top the Billboards with this one. It’s just what he does. It should be noted  that Wrecking Ball is the last album to feature the late Clarence Clemons, of the E Street Band. To commemorate this album, Jimmy Fallon honored Springsteen and all he’s done in the music world with a week’s worth of tributes from the likes of Kenny Chesney and Elvis Costello, and performances from Springsteen and the E Street Band themselves. If you’re a fan of the man, which most of America is, go out and get this today!

The Magnetic Fields – “Love at the Bottom of the Sea”

I’m gonna start off by saying that due to me currently typing this in a library, I am unable to watch The Magnetic Fields’ video for their new song “Andrew in Drag.” Fans of NSFW material, however, would probably want to check it out at the band’s site here. The song itself is pretty catchy, which is what you’d expect from an indie pop band. This band’s currently lined up to play a couple shows at the upcoming South by Southwest, with an appearance on Austin City Limits Live occuring on 3/16, so some big things are happening for the Magnetic Fields! Be sure to check out Love at the Bottom of the Sea, available on 3/6!

Kaiser Chiefs – “Start the Revolution Without Me”

Another NSFW video, the one for this band’s “Kinda Girl You Are,” is available for viewing, but I’ll let you search for it yourselves if you’re so interested. In a different move, Kaiser Chiefs are releasing essentially the same album they’ve already released in the UK (The Future is Medieval), but the US version has a different title and a few variations on the tracklist. So some FANers in the UK have pretty much already heard this album, I’m sure. But us USers get to hear it this week! And from what I’ve heard, it’s very quite cool. Get out to your record store this week and pick this one up!

The Men – “Open Your Heart”

Time to get punk-y! This relatively new band caught my attention with the song, and I’m not making this up, titled “( ).” It was fast, it was loud, it was awesome. Now with a new record out, I can tell all of you about them! New York natives, the Men are punk as hell. That’s all you really need to know. Like the Magnetic Fields, the Men will also be playing a bunch of shows at this month’s SXSW. Quite the band to check out for yourselves.

White Rabbits – “Milk Famous”

Playing baseball with smoke bombs. That perfectly describes the ending to White Rabbits’ fantastic video for “Heavy Metal.” Unbeknownst to me, I’ve actually heard this band before, as I heard the song “Percussion Gun” many a time on my local alternative station. So that’s pretty cool for me. Both songs I’ve mentioned are great in their own ways, and one can easily check out all their awesome music when they pick up Milk Famous this week!

That’s it for this week.

I’ve noticed I’m usually favorable to the artists’ stuff. I don’t apologize for that. I try to bring you all stuff you might like or may not have heard about before, but I usually end up liking it. So again, not sorry.

Until next time, I’m @TYFDK, and I deserve your follows!
