August 23rd Album Releases

After a brief hiatus that no one was aware of or cared about, in the words Kyle’s cousin Kyle from South Park, “I’m back!”

In my time away, bands like Blue October and Psychostick had new albums come out. Unfortunately, it’s been a rather slow month for the record industry, which is part of the reason I haven’t done much.

But here’s what’s out this week!

Black Tide –“Post Mortem”

This four-piece classical band, from the classiest area of Miami, Florida is….ahh, I was gonna keep going, but I can’t lie to you all. You’re my food provid…oh, wait, I don’t get paid. This four-piece badass heavy metal band, hailing from the darkest points of Miami, Florida are releasing their second album this week. After massive praise from all over for their first record, Light From Above, based on first three singles released, this one will get the same amount, if not more. Originally supposed to be a self-titled album and released in February, for whatever reason the name was changed and the date was moved back. There’s a lil fun fact for ya. You’re welcome. Metalheads, check this one out, if you aren’t already.

Zee Avi – “ghostbird”

Zee Avi YouTube Spotlight introduction

There’s a little something for your viewing pleasure to see what this lovely lady is all about. Also coming out with her second album, this Malaysian born sweetheart brings pop-y lyrics and beats that rival those of Norah Jones. Yeah, I said it. I’ll add a fun fact for her as well, she was actually discovered by Patrick Keeler (most famously from The Raconteurs), and he told his friend at her current record label about her, and that’s the end. She was signed thereafter, and both this and her debut were released on that label (Brushfire Records). For fans of something new, check her out.

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks – “Mirror Traffic”

The Jicks were formed almost immediately after the band Pavement put themselves on hiatus. In that 12 year span, the Jicks have released 5, count that 5 records. And yet, I’ve not heard of them until now. That’s not a slight on them, they’re just a band you really have to dig for. But that shouldn’t be too hard now, as it should be noted that this particular record was produced by the one, the only, Beck. Can such a big name provide this outfit with some mainstream credit? Personally, I believe so. The song “Senator” has the makings to be a hit on alternative stations, and that’s only the first song I’ve heard. Definitely give this band a shot.

That’s it for this week. Next week, more’s coming out. But since it’s a shorter week this week (by the way…week), go to your local record store and buy something! They could use your support, and you’re not only helping them, but the music industry as a whole. They take time to try and entertain your ears, and that ain’t always cheap. So do everyone a favor and help out. It’s definitely worth your while!
