Dusty and Cody Rhodes beat down Rey Mysterio: Justifying Evil!

Today we’re going take a look back at Smackdown from February 2nd of this year, specifically when Cody Rhodes and his father “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes got even with Rey Mysterio for severely damaging the face of Cody.

Prior to the aforementioned act of retribution taking place it would be best to take a  look at the events which led to it taking place, which remarkably started on June 25 of 2010.

On that date an episode of Friday Night Smackdown aired during which Cody Rhodes began a transformation. He claimed to be the best-looking wrestler in WWE and requested to be called “Dashing” Cody Rhodes. As part of this transformation segments began airing in which Rhodes gave grooming tips. Looking at him, it’s hard to argue that he isn’t qualified to be giving tips to help the appearance of others. Additionally, he should be thanked for wanted to help his fellow man.

Furthermore, he was extremely protective of his face after becoming “Dashing” Cody Rhodes, and really you can’t blame him, or anyone else for the matter for being cautious about facial injuries.

Several months later in Janaury of 2011 on Friday Night Smackdown “Dashing” Cody Rhodes took on Rey Mysterio in what a competitive match. However, during the match Rey Mysterio hit Rhodes in the face with his exposed knee brace, which Rhodes declaring he was no longer dashing and required facial reconstructive surgery.

As with any major injury Cody was out of action for several months. He did not participate on the 2011 Royal Rumble match as he was injured at the hands of Rey Mysterio. Essentially Rey Mysterio cost Cody his dream of becoming the WWE Champion or the World Heavyweight Champion by forcing him out of action and unable to compete in the Rumble. And who is to say that Cody Rhodes wouldn’t have one it if he was not hurt.

Rhodes also  missed the Elmination Chamber pay-per-view. Which means he was not wrestling. What that means that he was not working and because he wasn’t working he did not earn any money. Essentially Rey Mysterio sidelined Cody for months, making him unable to gain any income simply because he opted to wear a knee brace instead of getting some much needed surgury.

Finally, Cody came back to gain a measure of revenge on Rey Mysterio, however he was not the same man. He was no longer the same man. Additionally, he had to wear a protective mask as a protective measure against any future injuries to his face. Infact, to this day Cody still wears the mask, that is how severe the injuries to his face are.

After gaining retribution on Rey Mysterio  Cody was told to apologize by his father Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes made Cody shake the hand of Rey. Rey shook his hand, and the issue between the two men was apparently over.

However, what happened was much more interesting in that as father and son Dusty and Cody Rhodes gave Rey Mysterio a beating that was months in making. Rey really did have it coming; after all he sidelined Cody for months, cost him a world championship, money, as well as months of his career after destroy the face of Cody. As for Dusty being involved, any father would wish the best for his son and help them when help is needed from time to time. Which is exactly what Dusty did.
