bob and Ringmaster review Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star

bob: Today long time member of the FAN board Ringmaster, as a guest columnist, and I will be doing a review of Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star because we conquered a number of bad movies together against our better judgment we decided to give this one a look. After all the cast appeared to be solid with Nick Swardson, Christina Ricci, Don Johnson and Stephen Dorff in the lead roles. However, the warning sign staring us in our faces that Bucky Larson could be a rough one was that Tom Brady the director of The Hot Chick and The Comebacks was also directing it. Never the less we forged on.

This movie revolves around Bucky Larson (Swardson) who after seeing a pornography film starring his parents decides that it is his destiny to become an adult film star as his parents inspire him.

Ringmaster: Because my first thought after seeing my parents naked and doing the horizontal mambo would be “Hey I want to do that too!”

bob: The only thing worth anything in this movie is Christina Ricci’s very strong performance, making this a lot better than it has any right to be. Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star still stinks, but she does a decent job of trying to carry this film considering how awful it is.

Ringmaster: However, her role is burdened by a horrible plot of her being traumatized by a waiting accident. Gripping stuff. Meanwhile Don Johnson gives us an unremarkable performance while trudging his way through the film.

bob: The jokes fall flat each and every time. Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star contains bestiality within the first minute of it. This is a very offensive and vile film. Watching this makes one feel unclean, uncomfortable and very angry in large part because as it progresses the more offensive it becomes.

Ringmaster: This consists mostly of the entire cast making fun of Bucky’s “accent” and disturbing mountain of pubic hair. This is followed by the main plot which is I shit you not Bucky’s quick trigger and explosive orgasms going everywhere and landing on everything and everyone…..yuck. I know your saying to yourself “oh but it has a warm ending I bet” NOPE. Spoiler alert the ending is this guy, a character previously introduced as some random guy Christina Ricci’s character knows, threatens to kill Bucky for not paying rent. This character has no real purpose other than to waste film and oxygen.

bob: This movie is junk, pure junk. It fails as a comedy.

Ringmaster: It also fails to have a coherent plot as mentioned before, The movie can’t decide if it wants to be an American Pie type of comedy or a moving message comedy and struggles to juggle both concepts.

bob: The jokes aren’t funny. The acting by everyone except Christina Ricci sucks. This is well below the bottom of barrel. Additionally, Nick Swardson does not appear to be born to be a star anymore then the character he plays in Bucky Larson, the worst movie ever made.
