Synopsis: “On My Block, co-created by Lauren Iungerich (creator of Awkward) and Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft, is a coming of age comedy about four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high-school set in the rough inner city.”
Look, not every Netflix show can be a tense, indie/hipster sensation. Some shows are going to be a little more accessible and friendly – On My Block looks like it’ll be somewhere in that area. Awkward was a pretty big hit for MTV for five years and did a good job of appealing to that most coveted of demographics with expendable income – teens and tweens. Anyway, this show looks like a more ABC Family-version of a Dope tv show – drama drama drama, but there’s a market out there for that and Netflix wants a bite out of that youth market for sure.
