Synopsis: “Set in 1892, Hostiles tells the story of a legendary Army Captain (Christian Bale), who after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Wes Studi) and his family back to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico, to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow(Rosamund Pike), whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape, hostile Comanche and vicious outliersthat they encounter along the way.”
It seems like as soon as the dust settled on the Batman movies, Bale ran far, far away from Hollywood and did a bunch of movies that most people never even heard (except maybe American Hustle and Exodus: Gods & Kings, which …you know, not Scott’s best work). Though he’s going to be lending his voice to Bagheera in the upcoming Andy Serkis directed Jungle Book remake, he’s still out there making movies like Hostiles.
Re-teaming with Out of the Furnace director Scott Cooper, Hostiles looks like it’ll be a very gritty and dark look at frontier life. To be honest, seeing Rosamund Pike get a chance to really show off her chops as the young widow is the real draw on this one. Ever since her performance in that Massive Attack music video, she’s always been on the radar as an actress to watch.
