Synopsis: “A young man is ostracized by his classmates after he bullies a deaf girl to the point where she moves away. Years later, he sets off on a path for redemption.”
Not gonna lie – aside from the gorgeous animation (and the fact that I read the entire manga series in like, two days) this one seems like your typical anime drama, but there’s a bit more going on with this one. When this film was released in Japan it was #2 at the box office behind Your Name (which was the fourth highest grossing Japanese film of all time – so being #2 to that is a pretty big deal). On top of that the story itself is a pretty touching ordeal.
A Silent Voice addresses issues like bullying, coming-of-age, the hearing-impaired and friendship in a very distinct way and hopefully the movie follows suit.
A Silent Voice hits US theaters on October 20th and any self-respecting anime fans will definitely be there for it!
