Trailer for The Shape of Water has Del Toro’s fingerprints all over it.

So, the trailer to Guillermo Del Toro’s latest, The Shape of Water, just hit the streets. Guillermo sure does love his beautiful monsters. Since the beginning of his career, Del Toro has a knack for creating them. Kinda like a Dr. Frankenstein but without his monster going fuck-nuts and killing everyone.

The movie stars Sally Hawkins as a deaf mute who befriends this fish man thing, played by Doug Jones (Guillermo’s own Andy Serkis) that is kept in a laboratory as a secret classified experiment. So, it being a Del Toro movie, you can tell it’s going to be a love story between these two and both are going to feel like outsiders due to her handicap and him being a fish with bad guy Michael Shannon cock-blocking Mr Fish. Wonder what kind of wedding it would be if these two tie the knot….

Del Toro has hit or miss track record and it seems like he is channeling his inner Tim Burton for this one with setting and the feel of this movie. So this one could be something special. Or Guillermo could be fooling all of us and has actually made Creature from the Black Lagoon for the Dark Universe!

Let’s find out December 18th.
