WITNESS MAD MAX BEING NAMED 2015’s BEST FILM

Genre movies historically have a hard time getting recognition when award season rolls around. One might expect that an action movie with a flaming guitar in it might have an even harder time getting that recognition that most, but that isn’t true in the case of the National Board of Review, which named Mad Max: Fury Road as the best film of 2015, beating out the likes of SpotlightCarol and Brooklyn. It’s gratifying to see Fury Road get this kind of recognition, but as far as anyone thinking this could lead to a Best Picture nod for the film at the Oscars, do not, my friends, become addicted to awards. It will take hold of you, and you will resent its absence.

Also worth noting is Sylvester Stallone being named Best Supporting Actor in Creed for his seventh go-around with the character, and Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight picking up awards despite not even being fully released yet. Here’s a full list of the winners:

FOX REBUKE UNBEARABLY STUPID RUMOUR

revenant

In absolutely stupid news, Fox have had to clarify that there are no scenes in the upcoming Alejandro González Iñárritu film The Revenant wherein Leonardo DiCaprio gets sexually assaulted by a bear. Yes, this was a thing that somebody had to clarify.

With images of Leo being attacked by a bear clearly seen in trailers, it’s obvious that bears are not going to be cuddly and friendly characters in The Revenant (didn’t you ever see Grizzly Man? Bears are not your friends!). But rumour mongering started spinning yesterday from the appropriately titled Drudge Report, which claimed that the film “features a shocking scene of a wild bear raping Leo DiCaprio!” We know that DiCaprio would do anything for an Oscar, but he wouldn’t do that, apparently. As a Fox representative wants to make clear, “There is clearly no rape scene with a bear”. So uh, you know. Good.
