FIFTY SHADES SEQUELWANTS GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS DIRECTOR TO SIGN ON THE LINE WHICH IS DOTTED

“my tastes are very…singular…”

Fifty Shades of Grey, that whole thing, remember that? With the stupid dialogue and the sex and the inner goddess and such? In addition to driving aunts wild, driving Scots to violence, driving BDSM enthusiasts to distraction and driving movie executives to work in billion dollar cars with diamond wheels, it also managed to drive first film’s director Sam Taylor-Johnson away permanently, amid reports of conflicts with the books’ writer E.L. James.

So with the sequel Fifty Shades Darker (yes really) in need of a new director, Deadspin reports that Universal are looking at James Foley to take up the reigns. Or the riding whip. Or whatever. Foley has directed many episodes of House of Cards and most famously Glengarry Glen Ross. As we all know, it takes BRASS BALLS to sell real estate, and presumably brass balls are useful in the BDSM world too, whether in the literal or figurative sense. Foley is the studio’s first choice, although Arlington Road‘s Mark Pellington, Electrick Children‘s Rebecca Thomas and Hysteria‘s Tanya Wexler were others in the front running. The deal is not quite signed yet, but provided the studio remember A-B-C and A-I-D-A, the deal should be closed, they’ll all be allowed some coffee and James Foley will be bringing us his vision of…whatever happens in Fifty Shades Darker: The Secret of the Ooze.

Actors. They take a lot of pride in what they do, and look to push and challenge themselves by taking on complex characters, really trying to get into their heads and what makes them tick. Playing a classic, well-known character is a great opportunity for an actor, a chance to add their unique perspective on something already known and really showcase their ability. Also, actors gotta eat. Sometimes they gotta eat to the tune of a few million dollars. These two things are what lead to Michael Fassbender and Marion Cottilard working on an adaptation of Macbeth and an adaptation of Assassin’s Creed at roughly the same time.

The Assassin’s Creed movie, which Yahoo has a first look at here as per the above pic, is not only starring Cotillard and Macbethbender but is also going to be directed by Justin Kurzel, director of, of course, the upcoming adaptation of MacbethAssassin’s Creed may be one of the most blatant wishes-it-was-a-movie video game series’ of recent years, but the upcoming film is actually doing something different than a straight lift of the games’ stories. Fassbender will play new character Callum Lynch, a descendant of the secret Assassins society who through unlocked genetic memories, relives the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. These memories give Callum Lynch the ability to sneak up behind people and stab them in his own time, which should come in handy in his fight against the Knights Templar, provided this is all actually real and aul’ Callum isn’t just having a breakdown from reality. The film is set for release December 2016.

*Okay all Groots aside, it’s been confirmed that Vin Diesel will be returning to voice Groot in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, provided Marvel don’t realise between then and now that they already have thousands of recordings of Vin Diesel saying that he’s Groot that they could re-use.
