Big Screen Scoop: James Bond, Leprechauns And Guess What, There’s Spider-Man News

FINALLY WE WILL SEE SPIDER-MAN’S HIGH SCHOOL YEARS

Hello and welcome to Big Spider-Man Scoop, a feature where I talk about what’s going on with Spider-Man movies and nothing else. Variety is reporting that Sony are looking to cast younger for the new Spider-Man, with the plan being to look at the webslinger while he’s still in high school, exploring his “awkward” relationships with fellow classmates. A younger Spider-Man…weird. Did Spider-Man go to school? I was unaware of this. Spider-Man media has always been pretty secretive about exactly where that dude came from. What is his origin anyway? What comes with great power? These things have not been explored in movies before.

Okay, that’s a little snippy, but since nobody is dying to see Peter Parker go through his awkward teenage years yet again, this does leave open the possibility that the ‘new direction’ these films are going for is going to include having Miles Morales under the mask, the half African-American, half-Latino teen. Variety does say that this is being considered, but it also says that actors Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman have already both been mentioned for the role as the new Spider-Man, and a quick Google Search shows that those are two of the most whitebread looking dudes this side of the bakery.

PETER DINKLAGE PLAYING LEPRECHAUN, HAS BILLS TO PAY

Because sadly you can’t escape these kinds of things forever in Hollywood, Peter Dinklage is going to be a leprechaun in a film. Maybe. Adam Shankman, director of Hairspray and Rock of Ages is in talks to direct the film, which will have an R-rating.

O’Lucky Day will be a comedy, reportedly in the same vein as Bad Santa, about “a con man who may or may not be a real leprechaun, but who certainly passes himself off as one”. Production will begin on the film as soon as Dinklage is finished with the next season of Game of Thrones. As a young actor trying to break through, Dinklage refused the elf and leprechaun roles constantly given to actors with dwarfism, but these days he’s in no danger of being typecast, and the dark comedy aspect will hopefully give O’Lucky Day enough self-awareness not to be insulting towards little people but only people that deserve it, like the Irish.

WORLD’S GREATEST SPY DISGUISES HIMSELF PERFECTLY IN FIRST SPECTRE PHOTO

After the success of Skyfall, the next James Bond film has been eagerly anticipated. Things have gone a little quiet on the promotional front for the next Bond film, Spectre, after the positive reception that greeted the casting of Lea Seydoux, Christoph Waltz and Dave Bautista at the end of last year. This week however, the hype train has restarted, with a behind the scenes look at filming in Austria:

Also released is the first promotional image of the film. Can you spot the stealthy spy in his covert-ops gear in this photo?
