The gods of grind return. One of the main originators of the grindcore movement have returned to their signature sounds on their 16h studio album “Apex Predator – Easy Meat”.

After having changed their styles slightly over the years bring in influences ranging from traditional punk to groove metal the band have laid down one of their more raw straight forward grind sounding albums in years.

The production is flawless, the mix to make each instrument sound procise clear but still retaining the raw edge that made them the giants they are today. Barneys vocals are straight forward and focused then they have been on recent releases and the interplay between his bark with Mitch’s screams come together well and compliment each other.

Like all classic grind albums each song is short and sweet and whole album while 14 tracks long is over incredibly quickly with most tracks clocking in around 2 minutes long. With the tracks tempos ranging from grind to more thrashier stuff and even a guitar solo here and there the band managed to include something for all metal fans to enjoy while not alienating themselves from their hardcore crusty fan base.

Stand out tracks on the album include the main single “Smash A Single Digit”, the brutal “Stubbon Stains” and the thrashy “Hierarchies”

Old school grindcore fans as well as death metal fans are gonna just eat this one up. Its brutal from start to finish and it gets better and better with each listen. Destined to be another highlight on a long and storied career for Napalm Death.
