The space man is back. Guitar legend and all round rock star god Ace Frehley has released his latest solo album “Space Invade”. Following on the heels of his fantastic 2009 album “Anomaly” and proving once again that his song writing and musicianship are the one of the major factors to why KISS was so successful, Ace strikes back with an album that is not only a classic hard rock album in its own but it sounds more like a classic KISS album than anything that KISS has released in the last 10 years.

From the opening title track to the lead single “Gimme a Feelin”, to “Toys” and “Immortal Pleasures” these tracks all sound like pure classic KISS. Just proving how integral he was to the band in their formative years regardless of how Gene tries down play his contributions to the Gene and Paul show that we are currently left with.

While Ace’s vocals are not his strong suit he shows that he has great song writing sensibilities. He’s able to write classic hard rock anthems with easy to the point where it seems like he could almost do it in his sleep. From start to finish this album is incredibly solid and there isn’t a bad track on here.

The only thing that seems a little out of place on this album is the cover of the Steve Miller song “The Joker”. The vocal effects on Aces voice seem out of place and doesn’t really fit the tone of the whole track but other than that there isn’t a weak moment on this album

All true KISS fans will definitely need to own this over “Monster” or “Sonic Boom” because its a lot closer to classic KISS than you’re going to get otherwise. Also its a fantastic hard rock album and has that classic rock sound that will make you want to play it again and again.
