Dave the Dave’s Review Review: The Benson Interruption

Banner

“The Benson Interruption” ran for a whopping six episodes at midnight on Fridays on Comedy Central. It’s a long standing live show that Doug Benson does in California and it is also a podcast (just like every other thing he does). The idea for this show is good. You have funny comedians telling jokes on a stage. Perfect. Comedy Central was literally made for this. You have another comedian sitting on stage adding in little quips. Should be great. Doug Benson is the guy trying to interject little jokes and it just sucks big time. I’ve listened to the podcast. If you’ve seen Benson on anything else, he’s amazingly quick for someone who has been high for 30 years. I don’t know what happened with this show, but watching him awkwardly stumble around trying to build upon joke premises is rough to watch; hence the quick cancellation.

I think a secondary problem with the show is that it seems no one is bringing their A game. I’m a huge fan of the Sklar brothers. I’ve watched or heard everything they’ve done. They were not even trying on this show; same with TJ Miller and Eugene Mirman. I’m not sure if all of them understood they were going to be on television. Doug may have told them it was a podcast because he didn’t know what day it was. I think running one rehearsal may have made the show better.  That being said I think we should give it another shot and make “Doug Loves Movies” a show.

Breaking the 4th wall time: There isn’t a lot to this review. That’s because I typed out the last say 100 reviews like 2 years ago and this is the last one. It was chosen last for a reason. There is a wealth of shows to choose from to still do but from here on out it will be all new work. The frequency of these reviews has been slowing, so maybe this will either sink the whole thing or make me swim. It doesn’t matter. I’m going to say the work cunt here to see if you notice. Bye.
