Dave the Dave’s Review Review: “That’s my purse! I don’t know you!” (King of the Hill)

BannerHank Hill and crew started beaming into our televisions from Arlen, Texas in 1997. The series ran for 13 years and I can still be seen on Adult Swim in rerun form. In a world where “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” get to live past their expiration date, it was kind of nice to have a show end before it became unwatchable. Along that 13 year run, we learned to love the people of Arlen, hate Peggy and hope Bobby didn’t grow up to become a Brony. There were ups, downs and Chuck Mangione . There were hicks of all shapes and sizes, some prominent Asians and an Indian that I hate a whole bunch. Not because he’s an Indian, but John Redcorn can jump off a cliff.

I don’t care how wronged you were from the white man. Banging a guys wife isn’t cool prick.

Hank Hill is our main character. He loves propane (and the accessories) and lawn. He doesn’t seem to love people that much, but seeing the ones he knows it’s hard to blame him. He could probably be a better dad.

His wife Peggy is the only human Hank cares about almost as much as propane. For some reason everyone on the internet hates her face. Our very own FAN forum once voted her the least liked cartoon mom ever. I’d find the poll but I don’t have time. If you are reading this you do it. Clearly you’ve got time. I don’t get the hate. She’s a Texan with an inflated sense of self. Is that not normal? She thinks she speaks Spanish and can’t. She says she’s a good cook but isn’t. She tries to be a journalist and teacher but really only seems to so she make her son feel awful. I don’t really hate her, but I do enjoy when she gets taken down a “peg”. (I’m very sorry for that pun)

Before I get to their son, they have Peggy’s niece in the house most of the time too. Hank hates her too but eventually gives in. I never found her that interesting but she marries some idiot after her first idiot dies in an explosion. She also hosts a puppet show. The end.

Bobby Hill is their poor son. He isn’t going to win. He’s just not. Partly due to his inability to really do anything and partly because his parents don’t like the person they’ve raised. They don’t support him. They can sometimes muster up interest if they care about the thing he’s doing. His best chance is to marry the smart girl next door.

See?

SEE!?!

Connie is a member of the Souphanousinphone clan. They live next to the Hills and are either Chinese or Japanese.

Her parents Kahn and Minh are the opposite of Bobby’s. Well, maybe not opposite. They might love her, but they push her so hard and take so much interest in her they seem like coaches more than parents. That’s mainly her father Kahn, but all I really remember Minh doing is being kind of a jerk and friend with Peggy. She’s less antagonistic but more drunk I think. It comes off that way to me.

This is the point where my review comes off the track. There were so many seasons. Should I talk about some plots? Maybe the Mr. Strickland murder one? That was so early on though. I could just run down characters but there are SO many. People hate words right? We’ll just do some photo quick hits of characters and call it a day. Deal? Break!
