Welcome, ladies and gentleman, to quite possibly the biggest episode of Film Rave yet! For the first time ever, I’ll be doing a Mockbuster/Blockbuster double feature. The Asylum is infamous for their mockbusters, cheap version of big blockbusters meant to sucker in unsuspecting customers. This makes for great material for the Cinemasochist. The latest entry into their mockbuster subgenre is “Atlantic Rim”, a takeoff of Guillermo Del Toro’s “Pacific Rim”. Instead of pairing “Atlantic Rim” up with another mockbuster, I decided to pair it with the film it’s “mocking”. One cost $200 million, the other 200 pennies.
But wait, I’m not done with The Asylum just yet! Inducted into the Cinemasochist’s Dungeon of Horrors is “Sharknado”, the latest SyFy Original Movie produced by The Asylum. It’s a movie about a tornado full of sharks that stars Tara Reid & John Heard. Holy shit!
I also go over recent viewings, including “Red 2”, “Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation”, “The Willies”, “Paranoid Park”, “Rise of the Guardians”, “Dead Man Down” & “Assault on Devil’s Island”.
