Dave the Dave’s Review Review: Partners (CBS)

This new (in the fall) CBS comedy holds the distinction of being the only television show to have re -”tweeted” something I said. Not bragging because it was likely out of desperation for anyone to pay attention to the show. I was still happy about it because David Krumhotlz talked to me a bit about his acting ability in regard to “Addams Family Value”. That was fun. “Partners” kind of seem doomed from the start. I am admittedly one of the people that wrote it off right away when I saw the commercials start popping up. It was made by the people involved with “Will and Grace” and it seemed like they were trying to tap into a well they’d already sucked dry. With Krumholtz on board, and finding out that my favorite set of Jewish twin stand-up comics did guest spots on the show, I was ready to dive in. Who wants to know what I found?

The jewish twins obviously

The jewish twins obviously

I felt compelled to watch the show (and not only because Krumholtz called me sweet, here’s proof to those who say I’m not…girlfriend)

See? HEY LOOK! CONNOR!

I wanted to watch because there are certain people in entertainment I feel a weird allegiance to. This show in all honesty was on my radar The Sklar brother’s told me to watch it. I’m highly suggestible. Hollywood has managed to find a way to make me buy and watch thing by spreading people from Judd Apatow’s crew or David Wain’s friends into all realms. This is probably why I have so many Paul Rudd movies. The girl from “One Tree Hill” and Superman didn’t excite me so much, but old Dave Krumholtz won me over when he was spinning around on the ground in “Undeclared” so he’s on the team. Like I said before though, he almost wasn’t enough for me to watch what I was sure to be a stereotype filled snooze fest. Luckily, for the short run I was surprised, but not enough American’s gave it a shot.

A friend of mine told me to not be homophobic for being negative about this show. I’d like to state for the record that my dislike of the “stereotype” isn’t because of its origin. I hate “2 Broke Girls” because it is nothing but clichés and stereotypes too. Not to mention really grating sex jokes told by the sassiest of women. My point being, if you didn’t like “Partners” because it was about gay people, you could have come to that conclusion without hating gay people. That may be confusing to some and a little “real” for my normal light heartedness, but I figured I’d broach the subject.

Just hush and talk about the show

After 400 words it’s probably time to actually discuss the show. “Partners” ran from September to November in 2012 before being cancelled. Only 6 episodes had been shown up to that point, with the final 7 still never seeing air anywhere but South Africa (according to Wikipedia). Instead they ran reruns of “The Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men”. What did I say about typical tripe? Talk about crap. I guess CBS watchers want thinly veiled jokes about vaginas and references to old scientists that Middle American has never heard of. I apologize for going on tangents, but I’ve only got 6 episodes of a show that was okay to talk about. I have to add a little spice. This review (review) doesn’t write itself like “H8R” did.

Excuse us? A.C. Slater is nothing compared to Superman

So people who didn’t watch the show; two things: It wasn’t just a bunch of gay jokes and the title is play on the fact that the two main characters are business partners while also letting you know one is gay. In fact the show more seems to advocate being gay. “What?” ask the 4 people that watched. It didn’t actively tell people that being gay was better, but Joe’s (Krumholtz) fiancée Ali (Sophia Bush) is such a pain, that Louis and Wyatt’s relationship looks ideal.

Don’t get me wrong, the men’s relationship has some issues, but they’re real. They have confrontation about being super aggressive or ideologies they believe. Here is a list of crap that Ali ruins Joe’s day for: she forces him to propose or get dumped, she gets mad that he tells his best friend she won’t cook for him or sleep with him, she gets mad that Joe doesn’t like the naughty pictures she has of her and Derek Jeter and the fact that she keeps them, she forces Joe to give her a key to his apartment and take away Louis’ and she kisses Wyatt and expects Joe to be cool. And that folks is just in the episodes that aired. God only knows what she was going to do in the rest of the series.

See? She looks terrifying

Eh, maybe we'll give her a pass

There isn’t much more to say here. Its two dudes working together and being pals that get torn apart and tested due to new relationships. Regardless of orientation who hasn’t been there? Women don’t actually make friends so they don’t understand that men need to stay close. We actually like each other. But “Partners” is the second show with that title about architects and it left as much of an impression as the first ( a show staring Jon Cryer will never work…right?) If it didn’t employ actors I like I probably would have never given it a look. It’s not airing or available in most places, so keep an eye out and maybe one day you can kill a sick day with “Partners” on Netflix.

Here's to a good run on Netflix and hoping "2 Broke Girls" goes down soon.
