The Dissection
Coffin, at first, feels like a movie that is riding on the success of a different movie. BURIED would be the movie to come to mind. However, when you delve in deeper, it had some nice suspense and some tension to the mix and stands up on it’s own. Now, if only the acting was a bit better, it could really go somewhere.

While the acting isn’t the worst acting in a film, not by a long shot, it is sub par, and it mostly has to come with the non-name actors. Generally, in a film, if you have name actors in the cast and they’re not the focus of the film, they work to be the foundation where the main actors can build some solid plot and story on, and it does this at times. When you have a mix of new and established talent, it works out well, but when left to their own devices, namely in certain scenes with police, it ends up doing more harm to the movie.

Sean (Kevin Sorbo) and Rona (Sunny Doench)

However, while the acting’s not as polished as it should be, the basic story makes up for a lot of it. The story works well to keep the scenes together tightly and move from moment to moment without much lag. It’s there to help the movie .

The big issue that people might face is the presentation. The movie is low budget and while it doesn’t seem needed in a film like this, some money for some better cameras and visuals would have gone a long way. As it is, it looks like a movie that would have been made it on Chiller or a similar movie channel. It does help some of the scenes, though, especially with the scenes with Sorbo and Doench in the coffin.

In general, the movie doesn’t feel incomplete as it does unpolished. With the budget it has, it can be understood, but some extra time in editing, and as well as reshooting scenes to get better reactions from the actors, could have done a lot. However, the movie is not bad. It’s a film that, if you can look past some of the flaws behind it, it’s got an interesting story that helps to keep people interested.

The Extras
The movie, like most other MTI releases, have some minor extras. It features some trailers for other films and not much else to write home about.  It’s also English only with language options.

The Verdict
COFFIN is a movie that could have been much more if the film has some more days in it’s production. As it stands, it makes for a good rental or a cheap purchase to pull out once in a while to  watch when there’s nothing else on. It’s certainly one of the better Kevin Sorbo films that he’s done recently.
