DtDRR: Naked Trucker and T-Bones. Is it bad or worse?

What's that up ahead? Cancellation you say?

The Naked Trucker and Gerald “T-Bones” Tibbons are two guys that hit the airwaves on January 17, 2007. In case you’re wondering, yes it was a Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. and that would normally be significant. Sadly for this show, South Park was on hiatus so they didn’t get that advantage right off the bat. Hell, that got Sarah Silverman and those guys on Workaholics another season. Sadly for these fellows, they were not so lucky. The people who were lucky? The audience, as they only had to deal with eight episodes of this show and that makes it really easy to avoid in reruns.

Don’t get me wrong, the show has some laughs. Based on the people involved it would be almost impossible not to. The two stars have been doing this act live for years, so they are finely tuned at it. The Naked Guy is Dave “Gruber” Allen and he is one of the last men I want to see naked. Granted the list of men I want to see naked is not a very long one, so I can’t blame him for not making it. You’ve probably enjoyed him in a lot of shows as Teacher #2 or Nerd #3. He is very funny, and I hear he likes the Grateful Dead.

This man knows what I mean.

The other star of the show is David Koechner , one of Hollywood’s foremost imbeciles. Now, I’m not slighting him personally, as I find that it takes a smart man to play so stupid, but let’s face it, he plays idiots always and forever. This show is no different, as he plays a real gem of a moron and somehow the hippy, naked strumming his guitar, is the straight man. It’s hard to tell which one is the deuteragonist, but is that really important here?

High Brow

I’ve read some reviews online, and it pretty much goes like this: a lot of people hate it. A LOT. Most in fact seem to. Then one or two guys comes in and tells them all that they have to be smart to like it and that since the show is so above their heads, their inferior minds can’t handle it. Now, I’ve said that to people before, in a nicer way of course, I’m nice if anything, but I don’t get that here. I WILL BE DAMNED IF I’M CALLED DUMB BY ANYONE ON THE INTERNET! I have laughed at the show Frasier. I get stupid and smart comedy. I liked Stella for cripes sake. I scored a 1,200 on my SATs and I will not be talked down to by fans of this show!

Okay, enough fake anger. I abhorred this show when it came out.  Since then I’ve watched more stuff with the actors in it. One of which was Paul Rudd.

I was? Even I missed it at first glance!

And I thought maybe since I like the actors more, I would “get it.” I just don’t. I want to. I just need someone to explain it, and then maybe I will understand. To me it is just some boring naked guy and his mentally challenged pal that I can’t understand. I live really close to Kentucky, so I see that all the time and don’t laugh. It’s especially not funny since I just restarted the civil war with that sentence. I drew the line; fans of this show vs. non-fans. I think my side can handle all 12 of you.

I’ll be honest; I’m mainly going on memory here. I did watch the first episode again much to my own chagrin. I’m going to watch more NTSF.SD.SUV to clear my mind. See? I like bad TV so the two truck boys must be really bad. Anyway, back to the first episode. This show is one of those “talk about stuff then show a clip” programs that Comedy Central is fond of having fail since Dave Chappelle went missing.  This first venture has old rascally T-Bones trying to sell one of the nude avengers songs to a record executive. He breaks into the house, leaves the naked guy outside to draw attention and police. They bust in, find T-Bones IN THE BATH TUB! HILARIOUS! He says he can’t get out of the tub because the confrontation has him all hot and bothered.

T-Bones should learn to hide erections behind guitars but still show how big they are with his hands.

Later on T-Bones raps at the end of the song much to the happiness of no one. I kind of had to stop watching. I only have so many brain cells, and I’m killing enough staring at this screen. I may have to fast forward though as later on in the season I can see some funny people, such as: Andy Richter, Dax Shepard, Tenacious D, and Steve Carell. There are some funny people here, it just doesn’t work. It happens, a lot on Comedy Central. Sadly the best this show has to offer now is being a commercial bump for Daniel Tosh. Oh well, maybe one day I’ll get it, but for now, I’ll go on forgetting this shows exists, though writing this kind of makes that harder doesn’t it? I will say this to end: these two made a great theme song for the movie Let’s Go to Prison. That one song is better than these 8 episodes.

Ride that truck into the sunset boys. Sorry, wait, I meant just the sun.
