FAN interviews wrestler Jake Diamond

You’ve met an author and an actor. Now meet a professional wrestler, one who also posts on the forums. His name is Jake Diamond, an old school pseudo monster heel who originally was a vegas bookie. I talked to this talented individual about his craft, inspirations, future goals and worst injuries. Enjoy!

1) How long have you been a wrestler?

6.5 years.

2) Have you always wanted to be a wrestler?

I’ve wanted to be a wrestler for as long as I can remember.

3) Who was your favorite wrestler growing up?

Scott Hall. He’s actually the man who inspired me to become a wrestler back when I first saw him as the Diamond Studd.

4) If you could wrestle one wrestler, past or present, who would it be?

That’s actually tough. There are quite a few guys I would love to work with. But, I can think of one I always wanted; Me and Scott Hall vs. Curt Hennig and Chris Jericho.

5) What was your best match?

Another tough one. It really depends on what you consider good. I had three matches with Bull Buchanan that were very good. I’ve worked Uhaa Nation, Mike Black and Jimmy the Kidd in matches that have gotten a lot of praise from promoters. One of my favorite matches, a tryout match for PCW, was with Eric Mayne. Our match was cut from fifteen minutes to seven and we still got better reactions than the guys that were always on this show. We actually did so well that the promoter got angry because we made his guys (most of whom he trained) look bad.

6) What was your worst match?

Three things come to mind:

1) The only singles match I had with Navy Blue/DeSean Bishop. The match was actually so bad we were flat out told to take it home. It actually got worse because Blue, instead of just hitting a finish and going for the pin, decided he had to do everything he had planned. This lead to him dropping me on my arm when he messed up a simple back drop. The match ended when I rolled out and walked away so I wouldn’t kill him.

2) Every match I’ve ever had with this kid that calls himself Charade. He refused to keep things simple and every time I’ve worked with him I’ve ended up with some form of injury.

3) As much as I hate to say it, my first school match after coming to Georgia against Ric “The Kick” King. This was the first and so far last I wasn’t nervous beforehand. It started out fine, but, when we went for a spot we had worked on hundreds of times the past few weeks and hit every time, things went downhill. He went for a springboard rana and I tripped, driving him headfirst into the mat. Thankfully, it didn’t hurt him too badly… especially since it could have killed him.

7) What is the worst injury you’ve had?

The worst injury I’ve had I actually received while training. A kid I was working with latched onto my arm and, when giving me an arm drag, drilled my shoulder into the mat and broke my Scapula. The worst I’ve gotten in a match was a simple broken nose from a Van Daminator.

8] What is your finisher?

I have a few, so I’ll list them chronologically:

Senton Bomb (2005 only)

The Nuts {Death Valley Driver} (2005-2009)

Frog Splash (2008-2010)

Diamond Death Drop {Razor’s Edge} (2008-present)

Ego Driver {Gutwrench Piledriver} (2009-present) innovated

Tiger Mutilation {Tiger Suplex into Cattle Mutilation} (2011-present)

9) What is your main goal?

My main goal is to get to a point where I can make a living off of wrestling. Though I’d love to go to Japan, IW or WWE, if I can make a living off of it on the indies, I’ll be more than happy.

10) Do you have any advice for aspiring wrestlers?

Remember; though a lot of fans like meaningless flips, more like it when everything is placed properly and has psychology. We don’t go out there just to do a bunch of meaningless flips. We go out there to tell a story and entertain the fans and you don’t need to shorten your career/life to do it.

Jake Diamond can be found every Wednesday at WWA4 in ATL; every 1st and 3rd Saturday at AWA in Royston, GA.
