A Dviant Disquisition: Modern History with Sophie’s Bum

I have not always been a man who pays attention to the world around me. It was only recently that I’ve started buying a paper at work to read over my lunch break. And obviously the news has always been happening all around me, but most of the time I just don’t care or didn’t have the time to check it out. Most of the time I was looking at Sophie Dee’s butt.

Very recently I got to wondering…just what HAD I missed when I was staring at that Christmas ham instead of picking up the newspaper? So I went back to the release dates of some of my favourite picture sets and then set out to find just what going-ons I have been happily blind to.

10/11/2006 What I stared at:

At the same time:

– New York Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle was killed when the small private plane he was in crashed into a high rise building.

– A new study shows that as many as 600,000 Iraqi civilians may have been killed since the start of the war

– Jennifer Wilbanks, the ‘Runaway Bride’ that faked her own kidnapping, sues her former fiancee for $500,000 claiming she was defrauded out of 250,000 of the former couples assets, with the rest being punitive damages.

5/02/2007 What I fantasized about:

Just then:

– Six weeks after one of the largest recalls in history, Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology Development admitted to shipping over 700 tons of pet-food as ‘nonfood’ products to avoid inspection.

– Rupert Murdoch makes a unsolicited $5 billion bid on the Dow Jones.

– A tape from May 4, 1970 emerges and is said to have evidence that the Kent State massacre was not a case of self-defense, and that National Guard troops were told to fire.

7/29/2007 What I  leaned in really close to see:

Meanwhile:

– The United States plans a $20 billion arms deal over the next ten years with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states that includes weaponry and fighter jets.

– Scientist finally isolate the genes responsible for multiple sclerosis; chromosomes 5 and 10.

– Two Chinese men were sentenced to death for masterminding a botched oil theft, in which they mistakenly drilled into a natural gas line that needed $53 million in repairs and was not discovered for nearly a year.

4/09/2008 What I ogled:

Running concurrently:

– The Government Accountability Office released a study siting some 41% of federal government credit card spending was either unapproved or did not follow procedure.

– Crude oil barrel prices climbed 81% from a year earlier, to $111.

– American Airlines cancelled 1,094 flights to assure that  wiring  was secured to the wheel well of its MD-80 jetliners.

7/29/2009 What I was printing out to put in my wallet:

At that moment:

– The Endeavour left the International Space Station, ending the biggest off-planet gathering of all time; 13.

– Detectives investigating Michael Jackson’s death seized cellphones and a hard drive from the home of Dr. Conrad Murray

– Brett Farve announces he will stayed retired, turning down an inqury from the Minnesota Vikings.

9/16/2009 What I bit my lip over:

Suddenly:

– Video rental store Blockbuster announces it will be closing up to 960 stores, doubling its initial numbers.

– Muntather Zaidi is released from prison; he was serving one year for assaulting a foreign head of state. Zaidi was the television correspondent that threw his shoe at United States President George W. bush.

– Nightline anchor Terry Morgan came under fire for his tweet of an off the record comment President Obama made, calling Kayne West a jackass for interrupting Taylor Swift.

8/09/2010 What I got wide-eyed about:

During that:

– The U.S.Court of Appeals revoked a requirement stating that when on National Park ground a permit was needed to demonstrate and hand out brochures, citing it as a 1rst Amendment issue.

– A new study shows the largest online gaming demographic is women 55 and over.

– Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited north-central China, where mudslides and flooding have killed 127 people and left 1,300 more still still missing.

1/31/2011 What I made sure my door was locked for:

While I was distracted:

– A Florida judge finds President Obama’s Health Care Reform Bill unconstitutional, setting up a final decision to be made by the U.S. Supreme Court.

– Three illegal immigrants turned themselves in at an Arizona border-crossing for the 2009 murder of 15 year old Brenda Arenas during an attempted car-jacking.

– The massive protests in Egypt enter their seventh day, while the Hosni Mubarak goverment works to shut down internet and cell communications nation-wide.

And this was a small, small, VERY SMALL sampling to the events and drama of the world that I pretty much didn’t care about since I couldn’t bite it. And I did learn something from this exercise; The news is kinda sad and depressing compared to porn. Even now, just doing this article, I know I’m missing out on some amazing stories, but c’mon, do you know how long it takes to find just the right picture to post? It may be a great big world out there, but its a great big ass right in here, and five years later its still got all of my attention!
